Van Heel Construction was started by Ernest Van Heel in 1965, after having been a carpenter since 1944. The company has always specialized in residential remodeling and room additions. Ernie worked hard to build the business. He taught his sons much of what they know and he developed a reputation that has carried on to this day. In 1986, when Ernie retired, Jim and his brother, Tom, took over the business. Tom has since moved to the St. Cloud area and started his own remodeling business there. All contracts for Van Heel Dream Builders have come from referrals and repeat business for over 30 years. Jim has over 40 years of construction experience. Jim worked for the company during summers starting in 1966 at age 13 as a carpenter. He was a builder in the Navy Seabees, studied Building Construction Technology for two years at Brigham Young University, and completed a two year program in cabinet making at Utah Technical College. He also has extensive architectural drafting and design course work and experience, as well as many years of kitchen and bath design experience. Jim completed course work, experience qualifications and testing to become a Certified Remodeler (CR) by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). He continues his education by taking courses in construction every year. Jim spent much of his career working on the job as a carpenter. He now does the architectural drawing and design work, sales estimates, job supervision and works part-time as a carpenter where needed. Barbara is Jim's wife and is Van Heel Dream Builders' Vice President. She has many years of finance and computer experience, and makes sure everyone gets paid. She helps Jim with the computer, pays the bills, and manages the office. She also enjoys home schooling their teenage daughters. We consider our subcontractors as part of our team and use only subcontractors who are licensed and insured, and have a proven track record of quality work and customer service. Most of our subcontractors have been with us for many years, several for over 20 years. I love being in the business, even after 42 years! I love my customers! I love making people happy! I love designing something that causes people to say in the end,      “It looks even better than I imagined it would be!” I love working with my fellow team members on the job!
