OUR HISTORY

Ernest Van Heel started Van Heel Construction in 1965, after having been a carpenter since 1944. The company has always done residential remodeling — specializing in kitchens, bathrooms and room additions. Ernie worked hard to build the business, and he prepared his sons to carry on his legacy. In 1986, when Ernie retired, Jim Van Heel and his brother, Tom Van Heel, took over the business. Tom later moved to the St. Cloud area and started his own remodeling business there. All contracts for Van Heel Dream Builders have come from referrals and repeat business for over 40 years.

JIM VAN HEEL:
AN INDUSTRY PRO

Jim has over 46 years of construction experience. Jim worked for the company during summers starting in 1966 at age 13 as a carpenter. He was a builder in the Navy Seabees, studied Construction Management for two years at Brigham Young University, and completed a two year program in cabinet making at Utah Technical College. He also has extensive architectural drafting and design course work and experience, as well as many years of kitchen and bath design experience. Jim completed course work, experience qualifications and testing to become a Certified Remodeler (CR) by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). He continues his education by taking courses in construction every year. Jim spent much of his career working on the job as a carpenter. He now does the architectural drawing and design work, sales estimates and job supervision.

BARBARA
VAN HEEL

Barbara is Jim’s wife and is Van Heel Dream Builders’ Vice President. She has many years of finance and computer experience, and makes sure everyone gets paid. She helps Jim with the computer, pays the bills, and manages the office. She also enjoyed home schooling their daughters who have now left the nest. In fact, one got married last summer!

SUBCONTRACTORS

We consider our subcontractors as part of our team and use only subcontractors who are licensed and insured, and have a proven track record of quality work and customer service. Most of our subcontractors have been with us for many years, several for over 20 years.
